1D Hydraulic Modelling
Hydrodynamic Modelling using HEC-RAS

Pages: Assignment - Part 1 - Part 2

This Web page describes the 4th assignment dealing with the hydrodynamic modelling of rivers and channels such as the lower Var river nearby Nice/F.

Software

Assignment 4 is using the software HEC-RAS, provided by Hydrologic Engineering Center/US. The software is a free available product for Windows operation systems (64 bit). HEC-RAS can be downloaded from the server of the provider: (HEC-RAS). Please install the software using the setup programm. Change the region format settings of your Windows operation system to English(US) for the application of HEC-RAS.

HEC-RAS incudes several software reports and documentation, which are part of the installation on your computer. Please have also a look in the
- HEC-RAS: applications guide,
- HEC-RAS: reference manual and
- HEC-RAS: users manual.

General Objective

The objective of the 4th assignment is the understanding of typical hydrodynamic modelling steps of a river using numerical simulation tools.

Hydrodynamic Modelling

This assignment deals with river modelling using a hydrodynamic numerical simulation model. Main target is the understanding of the impact of cross section shape, slope, bed resistance, boundary conditions and other parameters to the flow inside the river during normal and flood periods. A simplified 1D model of the river Var is provided to run some studies using HEC-RAS as a typical river modelling software tool.
